  1. Quick read, great story!

  2. Relatable and inspiring.

  3. This is an amazing read for first-generation college students!

  4. Normally, I am not into books let alone reading a book about someone’s hardships, but this book is inciting to say the least! This book doesn’t throw random advice hoping it will stick in your head. This book digs deep by talking about many struggles the author has been to to help other see that no matter how hard life gets, there is light at the end of the tunnel. There’s mental and physical pain that is describes that is enough for one’s life time. But this books shows that as long as there is hope you will get through the pain and suffering. I am only 18 and this book has opened my eyes to see that there is more to life than pain. I may have to look for it, but I know it’s out there. All I got to do is hope.

  5. I’m an educator and think that 1865 is the cure to what many college students (especially first generation) feel that goes overlooked. Being able to take a closer look into the life of someone who has achieved so much and understanding what had to be overcome to get there is refreshing. It’s a comforting note to anyone reading to keep going and continue their journey because all will come together as it should.

  6. ‘Your zip code does not define your destiny’ – Now, how cool is this?
Let me be honest here. I am not a big fan of self-help books. I always hated the way they would throw advice at you and being so factual and so distant. But this book, 1865 isn’t usual. The author, Evingerlean shares how she fought the struggles in her life and how she overcame everything. Through her pain, you will learn your lessons; through her struggles, you will learn to be brave and through her life, you will learn to live! The one thing I loved the most about this book is, it doesn’t limit itself to one topic. Rather, it has covered everything – from sexual abuse to rejections in life; from failure to having hope and belief. The motivational lines being sprinkled in between are like an added cherry on the cake. This book will be a savior for most of us since I could relate so much to her life. A brilliant and must-read book!

  7. WOW! “1865” simultaneously, magnified the meaning of transparency and fearlessness. Her affinity for helping others in finding their purpose is displayed within this great body of work. As a mental health clinician, I admired her ability to meet her past traumas with resiliency; truly inspiring, very timely.

  8. Amazing book and storyline. Very worth the read. Both real and so inspiring.

  9. 1865 is amazing and inspiring. Dr. Eve discusses a wide variety of common issues that many women and college students are exposed but are almost never talked about or challenged. Throughout the book I was able to connect with Dr. Eve on so many levels while laughing and crying. She brought an abundant amount of relief from self-doubt and anxiety as well as inspiring me take risks through 1865.
